Gallery: The Kever of Reb Yisrael Aryeh Leib, The Rebbe’s Brother
As Iyar 13 (5712-1952) approaches – the anniversary of the death of Reb Yisrael Aryeh Leib – brother of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, photographer Mordehai Lubecki went to the Tsfat cemetery in Israel to pray at his grave.
Rabbi Israel Arye Leib Schneerson was born in Nikolayev in 5669-1909. He possessed special qualities, a great analytical mind, an aptitude for in-depth study and prodigious intelligence.
He spent some time in Leningrad and became close to Rabbi Rayatz, who liked him very much. He was loved by the Chassidim, who surrounded him and asked him about Chassidus and Halachah. Different questions, relating to all parts of the Torah, were submitted to him.
In 5690-1930 he left Russia and settled in Berlin. In 5694-1934 he left for the Holy Land and settled in Tel Aviv, where he got married. In 5710-1950, he went to study in Liverpool, England. It was there that he left this world, when he was just over forty years old.
At the Rebbe’s request, his body was transported to the Holy Land and he was buried in the Chabad cemetery in Tzfat.
