BDE: Rabbi Yosef Levitin, 76, OBM
With great sadness we report the passing of Rabbi Yosef Halevi Levitin OBM, a Chossid, father, and esteemed member of the Chabad community of Bnei Brak. He passed away on Shabbos, the 7th of Teves, 5783.
He was 76 years old.
Born in Samarkand to Pinchus and Ita Rivkah Levitin, he left Russia as a child on one of the large groups that escaped the country during the year תש”ו. From there his family settled in Paris, France with many other Chasidim.
As a young man he traveled to America with the permission of the Rebbe Rayatz, where he was Zoiche to receive two Yechidusin with the Rebbe.
In תשד”מ, after a Bracha from the Rebbe, he traveled with his family to live in Eretz Yisroel.
He was Zoiche that all his children are Shluchim across the world.
He is survived by his wife Rebbetzin Devorah Levitin, and children; Mrs. Malka Hartman (Odessa, Ukarine), Rabbi Chaim Levitin (Neve Tzedek/Tell Aviv, EY), Mrs. Shifra Brod (Hodera, EY), and Rabbi Yechiel Levitin (Slovensk, Russia).
He is also survived by his brothers, Rabbi Moshe Levitin (Monsey, NY), Rabbi Berel Levitin (New Haven, CT), and Rabbi Mendel Levitin (New Jersey).
