Helicopter Candy Drop and Special Effects Menorah a big hit at Chabad Orange Chanukah Festival
A grand community Chanukah festival for the Orange County community was held at Chabad Center for Jewish Life in Monroe, led by Rabbi Pesach and Chana Burston.
The weather forecast in Monroe on the 1st night of Chanukah called for a storm of 5000 Chocolate Gelt and Chanukah Candy raining down from a helicopter! The sweet storm was caused by CTeens Amir Mosker and Tom Einav.
The storm was quickly cleared up by participants who packed their Chanukah goodie bags to their heart’s content. The crowd then participated in a festive special-effects menorah lighting of sparklers and lasers.
The Shamash was lit by John Karl, a Monroe Village board member and firefighter.
“Usually, the fire department is called to put out fires. Today, we asking them to light one!” Rabbi Pesach joked.
Following the outdoor menorah lighting, a Chanukah Festival was held indoors, and included: Donuts, Latke Bar, Cheese Latkes, Hot Cocoa Bar, Face Painting by Kim Gemmatti, Photo Booth, Chanukah Crafts and Chanukah cookie decorating.
