CHICAGO, IL [CHI] — The Cheder Lubavitch Hebrew Day Schools in Chicago under the leadership of Rabbi Yitzchok Wolf, has completed the purchase of a new building for the Philip and Rebecca Esformes Cheder Lubavitch Girls school.

The massive building which stands in the center and heart of the Jewish community at the busy intersection on Main St. and McCormick Blvd. is a brick building with over 60,000 square feet!

The building formerly operated as a six cinema theatre. Possession of the building will take place G-d willing immediately after Tishrei, and the Cheder will shortly thereafter be launching a five million dollar capital campaign to convert the cinema into an educational center to service the entire community.

I know the building. the place a massive. You can fit 3 girls schools in there.
Whatever it is, its a big kiddush lubavitch.
they should get a big sign on it. All it has to say is LUBAVITCH and that’ll be enough said…

The building was a cinema theater – therefore there is no windows. I hope it will go through some reconstruction to better adopt for the school

I imagine thats what the 5 million campaign is for. i guess included in that money is installation of windows.
Maybe they should keep a theater for Living Torah? :)

The boys already have a perfectly good building, so there not going to have a school there. But it’s crazy, that building really costs like 6,000,000$
and the school bot it for 650,000$!!!

I have already been told that the renovation will have plenty of windows. It is on McCormick Avenue. It is right in the frum neighborhood and mamash a kiddush Lubavitch. As an Anash member here it is so powerful to see this happen after so many new shluchim and mishpachas coming now to Chicago in the last few years like it used to be. Baruch Hash-m

Wow! That’s really impressive. Kol Hakovod to Rabbi Wolf for his dedication to Chinuch in Chicago. May the Cheder continue to grow and prosper!

hope there’s a better way to access it than through mcormick as it’s a busy street.
    still, wow, big news.

When I read this article my mouth literally dropped open with shock. For those of you not from Chicago, the girls’ school currently operates out of some rented classrooms in an old synagogue. This new building is HUGE. I don’t know if they’ll have enough students to fill it up.

  • once a cheider maidel always a cheider..

wow! mazel tov mazel tov cheder. asach hatzlocha

  • Hurray Cheder

This is truly amazing… good job cheder on your amazing chinuch that you give to every child… the girls will finally be able to have their own building to enjoy (and let the boys be envious this time) good job!!! mazel tov!!!
