Hannah’s* dad has been in prison for three years. Since the fateful day when he was dragged from their home in handcuffs, Hannah’s mom took on two jobs to support the family, other kids in school began taunting and bullying her, and her grades deteriorated rapidly. The highlight of Hannah’s year is summer, when the Aleph Institute sends her to sleepaway camp and she feels like a “normal kid” for two blissful months.

Hannah is just one of countless individuals who rely on the Aleph Institute as a lifeline.

One young man wrote to Aleph: “I had a plan in county jail before I met you. I was going to end my life. Your hugs were a recharge time for my soul every single time.”

A woman whose husband was in prison wrote: “Initially I was afraid to call Aleph. If the people closest to me turned away, why would strangers care? I’m so grateful to have met all of you. It gives me the chills when I think about it because it really is true; when all hope is lost and you feel utterly alone, you’re really not because Aleph is always there.”

Aleph is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1981 by Rabbi Sholom Lipskar, at the express direction of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Through religious programming, legal advocacy, and humanitarian aid, Aleph serves as a lifeline for thousands of men, women, and children in need.

Over the last 40+ years, Aleph has grown from just one Rabbi to a team of more than 80 devoted staff members and 500 selfless volunteers around the world. They are laboring around the clock to meet the relentless requests for help, but they cannot meet the ongoing demand without the support of benefactors who believe in their mission.
