The Shabbat Project Sydney After Glow

The Shabbat Project is an international initiative to inspire and connect Jewish people with the Shabbat, known as the glue of our people. As always, Sydney presented a variety of events across all communities, but one event, which united Jewish young adults from across the city, was the Havdalah Concert, ‘Afterglow’.

The event, months in the making, was a collaboration between twenty organisations & synagogues, which all shared the same goal of bringing young adults from all walks of life into the same space to celebrate an aspect of Shabbos.

The Afterglow Party welcomed over 230 young adults attending from all affiliations and communities across Sydney, and signified the theme of this year’s Shabbat Project, reconnecting.

Rabbi Danny of CBDChabad Sydney, the coordinator and driver of the event commented, “This is the second collaborative young adult event we’ve hosted in the last few months, and with so many more young Jewish adults taking part, this highlights the positive direction that our young adult community is heading towards.”

Shayna Slotar, the event’s manager and head of a large volunteer committee that put the event together also said, “I have never been more proud of the group of volunteers that helped make this all possible in just under 3 weeks!”

Hosted at Urban Winery Sydney, the attendees were greeted upon entry with fire twirling and hula hoop performances, with the main performance of the event being Havdallah led by Cantor Mordachai Aryeh Levin, Yiss Mill, Ben Adler and Remi Owen who took the attendees on a musical and spiritual journey. The rest of the night, attendees were entertained by DJ Duke and Sounds of Nikki.

Between the music, neon face painting, photobooth fun and decadent food by Rimon Catering and The Sweet Chick, the night was busy!

Additionally, each attendee took home a gift bag containing a mini Havdallah set so they can continue the tradition themselves! A special thank you to our Diamond sponsor United Israel Appeal.
