Uzbekistan: Young Rabbis Revive Judaism in Ancient Communities
A delegation of young energetic rabbis from Israel traveled to the ancient Jewish communities in Uzbekistan, to help lead the High Holiday prayers and events and bring joy and happiness during the festivals of Sukkot and Simchat Torah.
The group of seven rabbis will focus their activities on the major cities of Tashkent, Samarkand, Bucharah, and Kokand while visiting additional remote villages and communities. The local communities date back many hundreds of years but now suffer from limited community life after most of the members emigrated abroad.
The group was put together and organized by the Bukharian Jewish Congress in collaboration with the Federation of Jewish Communities (FJC).
The rabbis will lead prayers, and give lectures and Torah and Jewish heritage classes, perform educational activities with children and adults, and bring the joyful spirit of the holidays to the thousands of Jews living in the country.
