On Visit to Germany: President Isaac Herzog Meets Rabbi of Berlin Yehuda Teichtal

As part of his visit to the German Parliament (Bundestag), Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal, Rabbi of Berlin for talks and visited the exhibition “70 Years of the Luxembourg Agreement between Germany, Israel and the Jewish Claims Conference” together with him, First Lady Michal Herzog and Bundestag President Bärbel Bas. First Lady Michal Herzog took the opportunity to thank Rabbi Teichtal for the opportunity to present gifts to the refugee children of the Jewish Kindergarten.

Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal had already arrived in Germany on Sunday. The focus of their visit was the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Munich Olympics massacre. During his speech to the assembled parliament, Herzog expressed his gratitude for the words and ceremony commemorating the assassination in Munich the previous day and began his speech by saying the Yizkor prayer – a memorial prayer for the relatives of the murdered Olympic athletes. He also paid tribute to Germany’s culture of remembrance, saying “Germany has proven and continues to prove that it devotes considerable effort to the culture of remembrance and commemoration.”
