Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs Opened the School Year at the Chabad Kindergarten in Berlin
The Chabad Jewish kindergarten Gan Israel opened a new kindergarten preschool today, taking in over sixty refugee children from Ukraine who fled the country with the outbreak of the war along with their parents.
Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Dr. Nachman Shai, participated as as a guest of honor in the opening ceremony of the kindergarten complex “Gan Israel” in Berlin, Germany.
The ‘Chabad Education’ complex was established nearly twenty years ago, 350 children are studying this year.
In recent months, the complex was renovated and expanded, in order to accommodate the over sixty refugee children from Ukraine who arrived in Germany with the outbreak of the difficult war.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, over 480 people, including a group of orphans, have been taken in by Chabad in Berlin.
Following the plight of the place, the rabbi of Berlin and head Chabad emissary I’m Berlin Rabbi Yehuda Teichtel decided to expand the complex of the children’s kindergartens that were inaugurated today, as mentioned, in the Minister of the Diaspora.
“By virtue of my role as Diaspora Minister, I put a lot of emphasis on the refugee situation,” said the Diaspora Minister, “I am happy to come here and see all the children acclimating here in such a beautiful way.”
The rabbi noted the activity of Chabad emissaries both in Berlin and in other places around the world, who work extensively for the refugees.
Rabbi Teichtal, in his speech, spoke about the closing of the Jewish circle. “Jews once fled here and today Jewish refugees are coming here,” he said, “and this is our Jewish answer, from Berlin: we have an educational future here, educational institutions, a thriving Jewish empire.”
