Yeshiva College in Bondi, Australia was ordered closed by a tribunal this week after a government investigation found them lacking in curriculum and accreditation.

“‘I cannot be satisfied that it is compliant with requirements concerning child protection,” Dr Juliet Lucy who administered the investigation wrote. “The purpose of those requirements is to ensure that children receive the education to which they are entitled, that the school is governed effectively and ethically and that the students’ welfare and safety is protected.”

According to the report, multiple teachers, specifically identified as the Judaic studies teachers, were found to be lacking proper credentialling to be working with the students. Another issue noted was a shortcoming in what the government considered to be minimum curriculum requirements.

The school, which receives government tuition money, filed an appeal against the investigation, but failed to sway the tribunal.

‘The decision to refuse and cancel the school’s registration is based on ongoing non-compliance with the requirements for school registration, namely issues relating to governance and curriculum,’ an NESA spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

It was noted that the school saw progress in late 2021 as they worked with the government to resolve the issues, but ultimately fell short of standards and prompted the government to close the school.

Rabbi Dovid Slavin who runs the school was quoted as saying that they are weighing their options and was disappointed with the tribunals decision.
