We Stopped Her Cremation, Now Help Us Get Her to Kevurat Yisroel
When informed that a former congregant, who had relocated years earlier to another city, was scheduled to be cremated, Rabbi Levy and Chanie Zirkind, Shluchim to Fresno, California, exerted all efforts to convince the family to adhere to Jewish tradition and have Asunta (Hadassah) buried properly.
The family was burdened with finances and had opted for cremation as it is substantially cheaper. The Zirkinds were determined to save a Jewish Neshama, and remained resilient to persuade the daughter and gentile ex-husband to agree to a Jewish burial in a most respectful manner.
Moved by the Zirkinds heartfelt pleas, the family relented on condition that they assume all financial responsibility.
As arrangements for her transport to Los Angeles were being finalized, the daughter called in a state of utter amazement and shared: “In a dream, my mom appeared looking healthy and happy, wearing her favorite flowy silk dress. She emotionally thanked me for listening to the Rabbi and stop her cremation. My mom was a completely different woman, like all the pain was gone with the knowledge that she was having a Taharah and Jewish burial! Thank you for persisting and doing what’s best for my mom!”
Now Chabad of the Central Valley | Chabad Fresno needs your help to finalize all arrangements and have Hadassah buried in a timely fashion. The Zirkinds are being assisted with the arrangements by the Chesed Shel Emes Society of CA, Chabad of CA, and Chevra Kadisha of Los Angeles.
However, the bulk of the finances remain their responsibility and so they are turning to you for assistance and giving you the opportunity to share in this mitzvah.

I would help if they provide full disclosure and transparency of expenses and levels of support already in place.
I would give if I knew the expenses are $X, funds came in from X and X organizations, and the balance of $X remains.
Right now, it’s a vacuum – give money for undisclosed expenses because we want you to support an emotional fundraiser.
That is unfair. Sorry, so count me out.
