New Pittsburgh Mikvah Makes Progress

by CrownHeights.info

A new mikvah being built at the Bnei Emunah – Chabad Shul in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania took a major step towards completion today as concrete was poured for the all vital Bor.

Rabbanim and community leaders visited throughout the day to supervise the pouring of the cement for the Bor, a task that takes planning and halachic oversight.

The building of the Bnei Emunah -Chabad Mikvah, being built in memory of Yudi “Jeff” Sternfeld OBM, is being overseen by Rabbi Gershon Grossbaum, a well known Halachic authority of Mikvaos.

Many local Rabbonim and leaders, including the Head Shliach of Pittsburgh Rabbi Yisroel Rosenfeld, met with Rabbi Grossbaum and Rabbi Elchonon Friedman, the Rabbi of Bnai Emunoh Chabad of Pittsburgh, at the site of the future mikvah, to ensure that it was being built with the upmost care.

Funding for the mikvah was raised through a campaign in memory of Yudi “Jeff” Sternfeld, an international businessman, friend of thousands, and husband of Chani Sternfeld who passed away on January 14, 2021 (Alef Shvat) due to complications from Covid-19. Married for only a year and half and only 31 years old, Yudi had passed away without having been blessed with children. Family and friends have undertaken several memorial efforts, the most significant of which being Yudi’s Legacy of the Greenfield Mikvah in Pittsburgh.

In the days after his death, Yudi’s phone was found to contain a note titled “For Future Sons” which included lessons and values he wanted to pass on. “He would have been the best of fathers,” remarked his widow, Chani Sternfeld. There is no question that the next generation from Yudi would have contributed tremendously to making this world a greater place.

The completion of the new Mikvah will bring relief to both men and women of the local Jewish community who today have had to walk 1½ miles to use the nearest Mikvah.
