Downtown Torah Dedication Illuminates Greenwich Village

This past Sunday, on the eve of 11 Nissan, the Chabad Loft dedicated a New Torah in honor of Sammy Farkas a”h. Sammy was only 15, when his life was tragically cut short as a result of an accident that took place three years ago.

His father, Michael Farkas donated the Torah and transformed the tragedy with this lively Simcha that was a huge “kiddish Hashem.” The public celebration was taken to the streets of Manhattan and Washington Square Park where hundreds gathered, danced, and felt the Simcha of the day.

The directors of Chabad Loft at the Kavanah Space in Greenwich Village, Rabbi Yakov and Avital Bankhalter, were overjoyed to fill the streets of a neighborhood known for its social and political protests and instead fill it with the rejoicing of Jewish life and Simcha Torah.
