Montreal Community Unites To Solve Issues of Modern Technology
The Montreal Lubavitch community united, to address the problematic issues of modern technology and keeping our children safe, under the banner “Let’s Solve It, Together”.
Rabbi Dr. Yosef Shagalow, world renowned psychologist and expert on technology issues, was flown in from Minnesota to Montreal for two days. He gave an informative and inspiring talk to mothers and fathers at a special event on Sunday night, in the Beth Rivkah auditorium.
Rabbi Getzy Markowitz was MC. The evening commenced with everyone reciting the Rebbe’s Kapital Tehillim for sholom and safety in Ukraine and all over the world. A video of the Rebbe was shown. Rabbi Yosef Minkowitz, principal of Beth Rivkah, spoke about the importance of maintaining the purity of our children’s neshomos. A short video showed the serious concerns resulting from Smartphone usage. Mr. Gavriel Kaufman from TAG (Technology Awareness Group) presented practical solutions by giving information on PowerPoint about various recommended filters and programs.
Rabbi Dr. Shagalow also gave a total of ten workshops, to individual grades, in the five Lubavitch schools sponsoring this important project: Beth Rivkah, Yeshiva, Mesivta Kerem Menachem, Mesivta Ateres Menachem and Seminary Beis Chaya Mushka. The teenage students were so interested and involved that they wanted more time to continue longer.
Special thanks to the school coordinators of MUST (Mothers United to Stall Technology) – who are doing amazing work in tandem with mothers in the community: Mrs. Mushka Chaikin, Mrs. Chava Russ – at Beth Rivkah; Mrs. Rivkah Levin, Mrs, Dina Perlstein – at Yeshiva.
A great Yasher Koach to everyone who helped make this ongoing project a success.
