Agreement Talks Collapse Between JEM and RebbeDrive, Case Heading To Court

by CrownHeights.info

The two sides in the bitterly fought dispute over copyright ownership of Rebbe Media collections have failed to come to an agreement, and are now heading to court.

The news of the failure to come to an amicable agreement was submitted to the court last Friday, with deadlines set for the end of December.

“Following up on prior correspondence, we write on behalf of Plaintiff and Defendants to inform the Court that, unfortunately, the parties have not been able to finalize a settlement,” the letter says.

According to the letter, submitted by the attorneys for JEM, the parties had made “substantial progress”, but there remained “one outstanding substantive issue concerning certain of the copyrighted works (specifically, two collections in which JEM claims copyright ownership) for which, despite extensive party-to-party negotiations, we have been
unable to identify a mutually agreeable solution.”

Previously, the two sides had come to “an agreement in principle”, raising the hope of an amicable solution to what has become an embarrassing drawn-out saga.

With the case officially going to litigation, a December 31st deadline was set for the filing of the next round of legal documents.
