Gems From The Schneerson Library: A Map Of The Friedekier Rebbe’s Apartment in St. Petersburg

The Library of the Frierdiker Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, was confiscated by the Bolsheviks and placed in Russia’s state library. CrownHeights.info presents a series of gems discovered in the library and made available to the public.

The Schneerson apartment in St. Petersburg, Russia was located on the corner of Pestel St and Mokhovaya St during the mid-1920’s, and a plan of the apartment can be found in the Schneerson Collection.

The apartment consisted of 13 rooms. Room №13 was a kitchen, which was connected with a bathroom (the room above room №10).

Moreover, the archive features a cost sheet for the renovation of the apartment. It included:

  • reflooring almost the whole apartment;
  • plastering the ceilings anew;
  • arranging a new lavatory;
  • fixing doors and windows, etc.

All of that cost about 850 rubles, which at the time was quite a substantial amount for the time.
