It took a while, but the government money finally filtered down.

Bochurim from the Rabbinical College of America were pleasantly surprised to find that they had mail, in the form of a check from their school.

“We are pleased to inform you that you have been awarded an Emergency Financial Aid Grant from the portion of funds allocated to our institution through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) which provides funding to institutions to provide emergency financial aid grants to students,” the school wrote in an award letter to students.

As part of the 2020 CARES Act, which provided stimulus and emergency aid for the United States to help through the COVID-19 pandemic, a bill called the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund or HEERF set aside $14 Billion to assist students of higher education.

The division of the grant funds at The Rabbinical College of America took into account the number of eligible students, exceptional circumstances, and the total amount awarded to the institution, according to the school.

As per the award letter provided to the students, each eligible student received a hefty check to be used for any COVID-19 related expenses such as lodgings, food, or medical expenses.

The letter from the school was signed by the head Shliach of New Jersey, Rabbi Moshe Herson.
