Study Nach and Make a Siyum by Next Hey Teves
“People like a fixed timetable for learning,” R’ Levi Browd commented to me. There’s a certain satisfaction in knowing that every day you’re learning such-and-such amount of a certain sefer per day – whether it’s a Parsha of Chumash-Rashi, one or three chapters of Rambam, an amud of Gemara, etc. – and finishing it by such-and-such a date.
In Hayom Yom (19 Adar I) the Rebbe records the practice of the early chassidim, who used to learn a fixed portion of Tanach per day, and finish it every 3 months.
Now, beginning today (6 Teves), you have the opportunity to do the same, using the attached Moreh Shiur! (Can also be downloaded here: http://gemara.org/Tanach%20Moreh%20Shiur%20-%20page%20format.pdf). Once you get used to it, saying the daily portion takes no more than about 20 minutes.
For those who prefer a slower pace, the Moreh Shiur also features a one-year cycle (also beginning on 6 Teves), generally one perek of Neviim and one of Kesuvim per day (ideally with Rashi or some other peirush).
Imagine, next Hei Teves, at a farbrengen (and with our fondest hope that it will be one presided over by the Rebbe, l’matah me’asarah tefachim), being able to say that you’ve learned through all 24 books of Tanach and can make a siyum on them!
