Revival After 32 Years in Aubervilliers

Throughout the 32 years of a communist party ruling the city, any religious event in front of City Hall was out of the question, until this year B”H, with the aftermath of COVID, the Shluchim decided to do something drastic to bring some light to the city.

Thus an event went into plan. The requests were sent into the government, and to the shluchim’s astonishment, after receiving multiple answers from the Rebbe, the plan was accepted.

The day came on the 8th night of Chanukah, the tents went up, the music started playing, the smell of freshly baked doughnuts, and the giant menorah was set up. All told among men, women, and children, over 500 participants gathered at the event.

Jews and gentiles alike joined together in unity as the Chanukah lights glowed where they had not for many years, and danced hand in hand as one.

As he kindled the Shamash, the non Jewish government official spoke of the importance of the Jewish community in Aubervilliers.

Rabbi Shmulik Tewel, Chabad Shliach and organizer of the event, said “It says the wolf and the lamb will be together, despite the highly Muslim population here, we actually felt this unity, Aubervilliers is ready to welcome Moshiach.”
