New Shluchim to the University of Nevada in Reno

Rabbi Dani and Rochel Libersohn, together with their daughter Devorah Leah will be opening a Chabad House at the University Nevada Reno (UNR).

Located in the heart of downtown Reno, in close proximity to Lake Tahoe, the university boasts a student population of 20,000 with a growing Jewish base. As the student and Jewish population in the city of Reno continues to grow, the need for full time Jewish activities on campus has become a necessity.

“We are already working closely together with other Jewish organizations on campus to make sure all Jewish students’ needs are met and reaching new students who are not yet connected,” the Libersohns said. “Over the past few months we have been to UNR and have met with many students. We hosted a Pop Up Sukkos experience outside the student union, as well as hosted a Pesach Seder in Spring 2021, which was many students first in person Jewish experience on campus.”

The Libersohn’s Shlichus on Campus will not just focus on the students, but will also include the large Jewish faculty at the University.

“We are in close contact with President Brian Sandoval the President of UNR and former Governor of Nevada,” the Liebersohns said. “A close friend of Chabad and the Jewish community in Reno, he is much looking forward to welcoming us on campus.”

The new Shluchim will be heading out on their Shlichus on the 4th night of Chanukah, and are excited and ready to illuminate the University of Nevada Reno and bring the light of Judaism to all the students on campus.

“We would like to thank Chabad on Campus International for there immense support throughout the process of moving out on Shlichus,” they said. “With the many complexities and challenges of moving to a new University Chabad on Campus International has been there for us every step of the way.”

On the first night of Chanukah November 28th the Libersohns will be launching a $100,000 campaign to help start programs and activities on campus, and bring the warmth and joy of Judaism to every Jew. Partner with Rabbi Dani and Rochel and help bring to fruition the Rebbe’s vision of reaching and illuminating every Jew.
