Israeli Parents Urged Not To Send Their Sons To Crown Heights For Tishrei

Seven Chabad Yeshivas in Israel sent letters to parents urging them not to send their children to Crown Heights this Tishrei, warning of potential risk due to COVID-19.
“The Roshei Yeshivos and administrators met with the administration of Vaad HaTemimim HaOlami to discuss if it would be responsible or correct for us to send young talmidim at this time since it’s been proven that even those vaccinated or recovered can contract COVID variants,” they wrote.
In the letter, the yeshivas explained that although it is customary for many hundreds of boys to spend Tishrei by the Rebbe, and this year the boys would technically be allowed to travel, the fact that the boys would be without any supervision or able to be monitored for their health would make such a trip very concerning. As well, with the constantly changing situation, there is no guarantee that travel would continue to be allowed, leading to the possibility of boys being stranded in the United States.
“Therefore, as those responsible for the material and ruchniyus needs of the bochurim, we are recommending not to send the young talmidim for Tishrei. We cannot take upon ourselves the responsibility for their health and welfare from afar,” the Yeshivas argued.
It is also worth noting that the newer strains of COVID-19 have shown to be more virulent than the original, and has also shown to affect young adults and teens.
