Kol Berama Apologizes After Saying That A Few Chabad Families Dead In Surfside is Nothing to Report On

by CrownHeights.info

The Yiddish news broadcasting service Kol Berama published an article on the tragic collapse of the Champlain Tower in Surfside, and felt the need to explain to their readers why it was importantly to publish about it. Their reason? It’s more than just a few Chabad families dead, those apparently wouldn’t be worth writing about.

“Initially we thought it was just a couple of chabad families that perished and that’s all,” they wrote in Yiddish. “Yes, it’s a loss, but nothing to turn over the world…”

The wording, translated from Yiddish from their written June 29th publication, doesn’t dilute the meaning or the tone of the rather crude explanation, in essence saying that Chabad lives don’t matter, or that they are not considered “Unzer” (ours) and therefore don’t deserve a mention.

CrownHeights.info reached out to Kol Berama, who responded saying that it was a badly worded attempt to show the gravity of the situation, and that they profusely apologize.
