The Rebbe Handwritten Edits on a French Calendar
The Rebbe’s handwritten edits on a French Calendar for the year of 5701 has been published in the Vaad Hatmimim’s new Kovetz for Chef Ches Sivan, this year celebrating eighty years since the Rebbe and Rebbetzin’s arrival to the free world.
In year 5700 when the Nazi’s have invaded France, The Rebbe and the Rebbetzin, then living in Paris, were forced to move from out of Paris to a place free of Nazi persecution.
After spending a few months in the city of Vichi, towards the end of 5700, the Rebbe and Rebbezin moved again; this time to Nice.
The refugees in Nice, published a calendar for the year 5701. The calendar is a small, hand-written booklet. The Rebbe has corrected the calendar several times in what they had written, and added the “bahab” fasts – (a acronym for Monday, Thursday, Monday when the Minhag is to fast on the first Monday, Thursday and then the following Monday of the months of Cheshvan and Iyar) – the last “bahab” fast for Cheshvan, and all the “bahab” fasts for Iyar.
These documents were graciously provided to us by the JEM – Early Years archives, headed by Rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin.
The Kovetz also includes: A detailed historical overview of the Rebbe and Rebbetzin’s escape, full with information and documents relating to the escape and comprehensive pictures of the events of Chof Ches Sivan with the Rebbe throughout the years.
The Vaad Hatmimim which provides the tools for Hiskashrus for every Bochur throughout the year is running its end of the year Campaign. By contributing $27, $270 – or a multiple thereof (in honor of 27 years to Gimmel Tammuz) – you will be impacting the lives of thousands of Bochurim.
