After Threat Of Violence, Shliach Fights Back With Tefillin

As Jews all around the world prepared for Shavuos, Rabbi Yirmi Cohen of Ontario was preparing to fight back against anti-Semitism.

“On the eve of the Festival of Shavuot, a threat was made of a lynch in Ontario,” Cohen told CrownHeights.info.”I got a few what’s apps threats, and I have to admit, I was shaken.”

Knowing he had to do something, he told CrownHeights.info that “When there was terror, after Israel was attacked, the Lubavitcher Rebbe always asked us to put on Tefillin on all Jewish males.”

True to the Rebbe’s words, Rabbi Cohen donned his UJA, “Walk for Israel,” T-shirt and grabbed a pair of tefillin before heading to the location of the threat.

Instead of menacing people, he found a large group of Jews at the site.

“None of the group who threatened showed up. Instead over 100 put on the Tefillin at the Promenade Mall, outside. Some put on for the 1st time!” Cohen said.

The kiddush Hashem quickly spread through social media.

“I have never in my life seen such Jewish pride,” said Rabbi Cohen. “wanting to do something for Israel, under attack.”
