Yeshiva Gedolah of Miami Plans New Initiative

The Yeshiva Gedolah of Miami has been a flagship Yeshiva throughout the years. In the mid 70s when a new Lubavitch Yeshiva Gedolah was to open in Seattle Washington, the Hanholas Hayeshiva turned to the Rebbe for guidance. The Rebbe’s response was swift and brief, they should consult with the Hanhala of Yeshiva Gedolah of Miami.

This coming Yeshiva year, Maseches Shabbos will be learned in all Lubavitch Yeshivos. Maseches Shabbos gives the student a wide understanding in the predominant Mitzvah of Shabbos and the intricate laws pertaining to its observance.

The Yeshiva Gedolah is announcing that in addition to the learning Beiyun as accustomed in all Yeshivos, during the afternoon Sedorim they will be learning the Masechta Aliba Dehilchesa, giving their Talmidim a clear understanding of the process of Halacha Lemaase in Hilchos Shabbos. Portions of the Masechta will be learned, then carried over into the Tur, Mechaber, Rama and the Meforshim on Shulachan Aruch, ultimately concluding with the Halacha Lemaase from the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch.

This initiative is a first of its kind, it will enable our Bochurim to cover a variety of topics of the 39 Melochos, amongst them, הוצאה והכנסה, בישול, הטמנה, בורר, תופר, קושר, מתיר, בונה, סותר just to name a few. Also, a portion of the year will be dedicated to learning about Refuah on Shabbos and dealing with contemporary Shailos.

This project will be encouraged and incentivized so that every Bochur can excel in his learning and master Hilchos Shabbos.

The program will be spearheaded by our renowned Magid Shiur Harav Mendel Krasnjanski, who is a prolific expert in Halacha, and will be guided by our world-renowned Rosh Yeshiva and Poisek Harav Yehuda Leib Schapiro. At the end of each Zman there will be a Farher from Harav Y.L. Schapiro. In addition, from time-to-time outside respected Rabbonim will be brought in to give Shiurim to the Bochurim.

At the end of the year, the Bochurim that pass the necessary requirements in their learning, will be awarded a certificate signed by our respected Rabonim. Allowing the Bochurim to master Hilchos Shabbos.
