Chabad of Tri Valley’s ‘Attractive and Contemporary’ Redesign Draws City Praise

The Chabad Center for Jewish Life in Tri Valley, California, has taken one step closer to rebuilding their fire damaged center, and received praise from their local planning board.

Shliach to Tri Valley, Rabbi Raleigh Resnick noted the milestone with thanks in a statement to Pleasanton Weekly. He thanked “our team of architects for coming together to bring this new center to life,” and said the congregation will “anxiously look forward to the grand opening.”

The journey towards the new building began in August of 2019, when a fire broke out at the 4,000sf Chabad Center acquired by Chabad in 2014. The damage to the building was extensive, and the process of rebuilding slow.

The new design for the building was voted in at an April 14th meeting of the Pleasanton Planning Commission, and received unanimous approval.

Vice Chair Nancy Allen praised the plans, stating that the design was “attractive and contemporary”.

The design includes a much lauded facade upgrade, with plans for two exterior building towers, as well as significant landscaping changes including  trees, shrubs and vines, a new playground, and outdoor terraces.

The center, besides being a synagogue, will also host Chabad’s preschool and daycare programs, as well as a Holocaust education center, library, teen center and kosher kitchen.

Despite the plans approval, an exact date for the beginning of the project has not yet been announced.

“We hope this to be a center that will be a dynamic, vibrant and welcoming center,” Rabbi Resnick told Pleasanton Weekly. “We really do hope it has an impact beyond the Jewish community.”
