Former Miami Heat Center, Meyers Leonard to Help Deliver Pesach Food to Holocaust Survivors

Former Miami Heat Center, Meyers Leonard and Rabbi Pinny Andrusier, director of Chabad of Southwest Broward and organizer of the annual Jewish Heritage Night for the Miami Heat are teaming up for a very worthy cause.

Since the COVID pandemic began more than one year ago, Rabbi Pinny and his team of volunteers at Chabad of Southwest Broward’s Sunshine Circle have been delivering hundreds of meals almost weekly to Holocaust survivors, seniors and poor families quarantined at home.

This Thursday, Chabad’s Sunshine Circle, directed by Mrs. Liba Andrusier, will once again be delivering more than 500 meals to needy homes.

Leonard has been spending many hours with Rabbi Pinny, educating himself on Jewish history and learning about the custom of providing needy families with Passover provisions.

Upon learning about this worthwhile cause, the towering seven foot NBA star expressed an eagerness to take part in the special campaign. Meyers will join the Sunshine Circle volunteers to hand deliver the Passover matzoh, wine and food to the Holocaust survivors and needy families.

Leonard recently celebrated Shabbat dinner at the rabbi’s home with his family and several children and teens from the area, including Tomer Saguey who recently celebrated his Bar Mitzvah and received a signed size 16 basketball shoe as a gift.

Joining as well were Rabbi Dr. Leon Weissberg, Consulting Director of Posnack JCC’s Holocaust Learning Center and former Director of the March of the Living for the Southern Region for 32 years and Mr. Michael Kaufman who was born in a German DP camp after both his parents miraculously survived the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
