Is Today A Kapotah Day?

by CrownHeights.info

“Is Today A Kapotah Day?” It might sound like a simple question, but in Lubavitch it’s not.

To help the many Lubavitch men struggling to stay abreast of the days special fashion need, an enterprising individual created a website, istodayakapotahday.weebly.com, that provides a simple and straightforward answer to the question.

With a simple YES or NO answer updated each day, the website saves Lubavitch men the discomfort of showing up to shul on a Yom D’pagra or Rosh Chodesh without the proper attire.

UPDATE: A Message from  istodayakapotahday.weebly.com

Welcome Crownheights.info readers!

This was started a number of years ago as a satirical site. Since last year, on Yud Alef Nissan of 5780, the site has always stated “yes”, as I wrote then to a few friends in response to a question of whether there is a point in wearing a kapota if you are staying home in isolation anyway:

The official position of https://istodayakapotahday.weebly.com/ is that if you have the question of whether or not to wear a kapota, the answer is: wear it.

This is especially true since the onset of social distancing. Reason being, wearing a kapota on yoma depagra is not a question of halacha, as would be tachnun or bigdei shabbos. It’s about a day taking on an importance and specialness. If you have a doubt whether to wear a kapota or not, you are not sure how special the day is, wearing the kapota is what will give you that extra push and make the day feel more powerful and holy.

With social distancing, wearing a kapota has nothing to do with being dressed in a socially acceptable manner in public. Who’s gonna see? It is soley for you and your family to feel and experience the importance of the day.

It is precisely *because* you aren’t going out that you should wear a kapota!

So in short, yes!
