Rabbi Moshe and Devorah Wolff have been appointed to establish a new Chabad center to service the cities of Burien, Federal Way, and the surrounding Seattle suburbs.
Since their marriage two years ago, the Wolffs have assisted Devorah’s parents Rabbi Yisroel and Leah Spalter with the running of Chabad activities in Weston, Florida. Now they will travel to the Pacific Northwest to build a community in an area where people who wanted to access Jewish services had to travel 20 minutes into Seattle. The Wolffs have contacted these few people and visited the area a few times over the last months.
Because there is no official Jewish infrastructure there is no way of knowing how many Jews are in the area, but the Wolffs estimate the number to be in the hundreds. Each of their contacts knows of a few more Jewish individuals so one person at a time, they are establishing the beginnings of a Jewish community.
