CKids Candle-Making Workshop a Chanukah Victory
This week, Chabad Houses around the world held CKids candle-making workshops to get ready for Chanukah
This week, kids from cities across the world gathered to celebrate Chanukah with a CKids Chanukah candle workshop. In an engaging couple of hours, kids learned the powerful lessons of light conquering darkness, then created light of their own in a candle-making workshop featuring all kinds of fun Chanukah shapes.
“Action is the best way to make a message memorable,” says Mrs. Mussie Kesselman, director of CKids of Greenville, SC. The ancient story of Chanukah contains inspiring lessons relevant to our modern era, and this CKids club “uses hands-on activities to bring those themes to life.”
While the candles’ wax sets, kids created gelt launchers—combining engineering concepts with the appeal of an iconic chocolate treat. After practicing on their newly-built launchers, kids teamed up in a Chanukah game show where their gelt-launching aim earned them point. The winner at each Chabad house was awarded a special CKids trophy.
“Chanukah is universally loved and universally celebrated,” says Rabbi Zalman Loewenthal, director of Ckids. “We wanted to take advantage of that with a robust offering that zeroed in on Chanukah’s most powerful concept: light.”
CKids is an initiative that inspires children to make a meaningful impact in their communities through educational programs exploring the richness of Judaism. Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, executive director of Merkos 302 which speaheads CKids, says “The goal of CKids clubs is to bring enthusiasm and meaning to every yom tov.”
With days getting shorter and shorter and the weather getting colder and colder, the countdown to Chanukah has begun. Thanks to CKids, thousands of kids around the world will celebrate with their newly-made can.
