Brooklyn’s Largest Menorah To Light Up Grand Army Plaza

New York City’s largest Chanukah celebration will kick off on Sunday, December 22nd at 4:00 pm at Grand Army Plaza featuring Brooklyn’s Largest Menorah. In the spirit of Chanukah and in partnership with Gift of Life, a recipient of a lifesaving bone marrow donation will meet their donor for the first time at the Menorah lighting. The free community wide event will also feature the highly acclaimed Jewish artist Yehuda Green live in concert in addition to hot latkes and special gifts for all.

“Inspired by the Maccabean victory of right over might and light over darkness, this gigantic Menorah publicly reaffirms our freedom” said Rabbi Shimon Hecht, Director, Chabad of Park Slope. “With the recent uptick in anti-Semitic attacks, it’s especially important that we turn out in larger numbers than ever before. This celebration is a proclamation to the world that Am Yisroel Chai – the Jewish people are alive and undeterred”.

Due to the heights of the huge menorah, the gold colored steel structure will be lit using a special 60-foot boom lift. Kerosene lanterns with specially designed glass chimneys shelter the Chanukah lights from the outdoor elements.

Brooklyn’s Largest Menorah is a project of the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE) and Chabad of Park Slope.
