JEM: An Interview With The Doctor (and Friend)

JEMcentral.org

My Encounter with the Rebbe recently interviewed Dr. Louis Teichholz, a cardiology specialist from Mount Sinai Hospital who was among the first to attend to the Rebbe following his 1977 heart attack.

Among the many anecdotes he discussed during his interview, Dr. Teicholz related that as he spent time with the Rebbe, the Rebbe became his friend. His doctor-patient relationship with the Rebbe developed into much more, and for many years afterward, even after the Rebbe fully recovered, he would come to 770 to visit the Rebbe.

Nowadays, Dr. Teicholz lectures and teaches young doctors. The most important ideal he stresses to them is the value of cultivating, taking a genuine interest and developing a friendship with one’s patients, a value shown to him by the Rebbe.

The interview was conducted by Rabbi Yitzchak Tsap, and filmed by Yisrael Silman.
