JLI Comes to Crown Heights

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — For the past eight years, the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute has been revolutionizing the way Shiurim are given at Chabad Houses across the globe. At over 200 locations, 72,000 adults have pursued intellectual and spiritual growth through a standardized curriculum, enhanced by dynamic textbooks and dramatic audio-visual presentations.

Two of the most popular courses, “From Sinai to Cyberspace” and “Flashbacks in Jewish History” are now being offered for men in Crown Heights. “We are gratified to bring the best of JLI’s courses to our own Anash in Crown Heights”, said Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, vice chairman of Merkos and the driving force behind JLI’s rapid growth and success.

From Sinai to Cyberspace tracks the history and development of our Mesorah and how its laws are adapted to modern times and changing influences. The course will be taught by Rabbi Yehoshua Werde at the Aliya Institute on Monday nights for the next eight weeks starting 26 Iyar, May 14.

Flashbacks in Jewish History will help participants develop perspective on today’s issues by analyzing past Jewish encounters with other cultures. It will illuminate the debate: Does our encounter with other societies help further our growth in Yiddishkeit or does it challenge and undermine our bond with Torah and Mitzvos? Rabbi Levi Kaplan will teach the 6 week course starting Monday, 26 Iyar, May 14 at the Levi Yitzchak Library.

Renowned lecturer, Mrs. Shimona Tzukernik will teach JLI courses for women in Crown Heights in the near future. Details will be announced.

One of the great things about this development is that it brings us one step closer to finally using this method of instruction in our yeshivas – where it is really needed!

When the Rebbe was presented with the key to the very first Chabad House (UCLA – Rabbi Cunin and l’h’b’ch’l’ch’ch Mr Allan Lazaroff) the Rebbe responded something to the effect of – It will spread like Macy’s and Gimbel’s to the North, and the South, and to the West, and eventually to the East – where we really need it. (The wording may not be exact, but it was something along those lines).
