Montreal Marches for Lag Ba’omer
The Chabad community in Montreal, one of the only cities in the world which organizes a grand Lag Ba’omer Parade whether it’s Sunday or in middle of the week, celebrated the yahrzeit of the Rashbi Thursday with much fanfare.
2,000 kids showed up from 15 Jewish schools of Montreal for the event, which began in front of beis rivkah in a display of Jewish unity and pride, as instructed by the Rebbe.
Young students recited the 12 Pesukim, followed by greetings from Chabad Dayan Rabbi Banon.
10 car floats graced the parade, along with a creative flatbed float prepared by bochurim of the Yeshiva Zal and an upsernish horse-and-buggy float decorated by the Chaya Mushka Seminary
Children marched holding signs in both English and French calling on Jews to “Learn Torah” and “Love your fellow Jew,” as they walked down Westbury avenue passing the Lubavitch Yeshiva. They continued on to Van Horne Park for a fascinating concert with Chaim Fogelman. A circus shows, magic show and raffles concluded yet another Lag Ba’omer day in Montreal, surely to be remembered for years to come.
Rabbi Dovid Cohen, the organizer, was the MC and greeted participants to the festival honoring Rabbi Shimon bar Yochei’s yahrzeit. He thanked the Head Shliach, Rabbi Berel Mochkin, for his dedicated leadership.
