From Days Gone By: Lubavitch in the Early ‘40s

Following the passing two weeks ago of Rebbetzin Charna Kolodny, OBM, wife of Reb Yitzchok Kolodny, OBM – who said to be the first American student to enroll in Tomchei Temimim and grow a beard, we present a series of photos from the first years of Lubavitch in Crown Heights, in the early 1940s, which were shared with us by their descendents.

Photo 1. Friends celebrate with soon-to-be-married Rabbi Yitzchok Kolodny at his Kabbolas Ponim, November, 1942.

Photo 2: The Chupah of Rabbi Yitzchok and Charna Kolodny, November, 1942.

Photo 3: A junior class at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch poses for photo with their teacher, Rabbi Yitzchok Kolodny, circa 1943.

Photo 4. A letter from the Frierdiker Rebbe congratulating Rabbi Yitzchok Kolodny on his engagement.
