Special Yud Beis Tammuz Program for Women
The Kinus HaMechanchos, the women’s Chinuch conference will take place at the DOLCE, Norwalk Connecticut on Monday and Tuesday 12-13 Tammuz, July 2nd and 3rd. As it is the Chag haGeula, day of liberation of the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe the program will feature Rabbi Alter ben Tzion Metzger at a special evening session.
Rabbi Metzger, a distinguished professor at Stern College, wrote the authoritative book on Yud Beis Tammuz; A price In Prison, (published by Kehot). His unique research and myriad of details bring the saga to life in a way which no other work had done. He will discuss some of what he learned firsthand from sources who had what may have thought of as almost incidental information; he will contrast the Rebbe’s experiences with what was happening in the Jewish world at large and will draw conclusions which are very relevant in today’s world.
In addition a special study of the previous Rebbe’s most important Chinuch work, Klolei Chinuch V’hadrocha, will be undertaken by participants, conducted by a committee led by Mrs. Sara Lieberman.
The previous Rebbe had made Chinuch his greatest priority during the period prior to his arrest and had sent emissaries to many communities in the early Soviet period, to create educational opportunities. At the time, the communist regime had forbidden any education of children other that in the State schools, which officially taught atheism. Many Chassidim were exiled and even killed for their Jewish education efforts and to have mandated, even sponsored these so called “chadorim” was considered treason. This was cited by the communists in his indictment.
For Chabad educators to gather in the day of his liberation, is especially meaningful and the program of the Kinus HaMechanchos reflects it.
