‘Day of Judaism’ Marks Chief Rabbi’s 50th Birthday

Thousands of Jewish residents of Moscow gathered in the Marina Roscha neighborhood for a ‘Day of Judaism,’ marking the 50th birthday of Russia’s chief rabbi Berel Lazar.

The event lasted for six hours and featured 50 separate booths, each highlighting another facet of Jewish life in the Former Soviet Union.

The highlight of the event was the completion of a new Sefer Torah, which was welcomed to the Mesivta synagogue accompanied by joyous celebration.

Another highlight was the dedication of five new vehicles for the Sha’arei Tzedek Chessed organization, which will be used to distribute food packages and provide other assistance to the local needy and infirm.

In one booth at the event stood Rabbi Lazar, who greeted each and every participant with a L’chaim and a gift to take home – a Sefer Tehillim with Russian translation printed specially for the event.
