Six Torah Scrolls Missing from Tzfas Shul

Shul goers were shocked this morning when they arrived for Shacharis at the Tzemach Tzedek Shul in the Old City of Tzfas. They found the Aron Kodesh broken and six Sifrei Torah stolen. Some of the Sifrei Torah were antique.

The Minyan was moved to a neighboring shul.

Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Rav of Tzfas, ruled that since the robbery was not life endangering, the police may not be notifies until after Shabbos.

The shuls in the Old City are a common target for stealing tashmishei kedusha. Many of the Sifrei Torah have eventually been returned to the shuls.

Mayor Ilan Shochet encouraged the police to do all in their power to locate the Sifrei Torah.

    Given the recent history in the neighborhoods, why did they not have a more secure security system for the TORAHS?

    its sad to see yiddin who are taking the time to make accusations of who took them along with the fact they had no safe. We are talking about 6 holy Torahs missing. That should be a concern for any jew. So i think those with any remarks should re evaluate whats important to them.

    Get over it!!! Have u ever been to Tzfas?? No one who lives there and sees the holiness in the old shuls there would do that crazy as they are!! I think ur even crazier….amd I’m rly tired…of u and ppl like u and ur dumb comments that come from an obvious place of immaturity!!!

    I am sure you are joking, but anyway, Rabbi Marzel is a highly respected shaliach who has no problems with anyone in this world. What’s more, although he’s quieter by nature than others in Tzfat, he happens to be an outspoken meshichist unless he’s changed over the last 10 years or so. No one except professional thieves would lay their hands on anything associated with him.

    Too bad R’ Gavriel’s tough cousin Baruch from Chevron can’t take care of whatever pieces of feces did this.
