Teachers Become Students at Cheder at the Ohel

Yesterday at Cheder at the Ohel, teachers became students and parents became teachers.

Made possible by a generous grant organized by Rabbi Nochem Kaplan, director of the Merkos Chinuch office, Cheder at the Ohel welcomed back chinuch consultant Rabbi Dovid Jacobson, Ph.D., for part two of a four part workshop.

Rabbi Jacobson spent the morning meeting with teachers and administrators. Meanwhile, parents davened, learned and supervised the students.

The first session of the morning was how to improve the nuts and bolts of the Cheder.

In the second session, Rabbi Jacobson proceeded to his main point: How to make the classroom an engaging, interactive place. He introduced his methods and spoke of how to incorporate these methods into the classroom. The teachers were all very receptive and interested in making their teaching time as productive as possible. The goal of these methods is to teach and reach all the children in the class all of the time. The rebbeim and morahs were excited to get back to their classrooms and implement these innovative teaching methods right away.

Cheder at the Ohel is always striving to better the chinuch of their students. These sessions are coming just at the start of registration for the 5773 school year. When parents are asked why they choose to send their sons to Cheder at the Ohel, some even from far distances, the response is always the same: “…for the chinuch, for the small class size, for the classroom (teacher/student) dynamics and the chassidishkit.” Many parents are looking for a smaller, better learning environment for their sons. Those who think out of the box are choosing Cheder at the Ohel.
