Rabbi Mordechai Groner from Chabad Lubavitch of Alberta looks over some of the graffiti left on the back door.

Canada Chabad House Defaced with Anti-Semitic Graffiti

Police in Calgary are investigating anti-Semitic graffiti that was scrawled on the exterior of a local Chabad Center. A swastika was spray-painted on the center, located in the largest city in the Canadian province of Alberta.

The vandalism occurred shortly after midnight on April 21st, during the holiday of Passover. The director of the Chabad House, Rabbi Mordechai Groner, was shocked to discover the graffiti when he arrived at the synagogue for prayers the next morning.

The word “swastika” was painted on a nearby school as well that night. Later that week, between April 24-25, four other area schools were hit – all plastered with vulgar drawings and language, as well as more swastikas.

Police are investigating the incidents as hate crimes.
