London Yeshiva Prepares for Yud Shvat

As Yud Shevat approaches, the preparations at Yeshiva Gedolah London have been underway with tremendous momentum. For the past 30 years, since the Yeshiva was founded, the Bochurim in London have participated in Learning Oisios of the Rebbe’s Maamarim by heart, which earns them tickets in a raffle Rabbi M. M. Gordon, the Mashpia, makes for a trip to the Rebbe for Yud Shevat.

This year, the tradition has continued with unprecedented enthusiasm. Each week, on Tuesday night, Baalei Batim arrive at the Yeshiva to serve as testers, thus making it possible for all the Bochurim who want to get tested to do so. This is a wonderful opportunity for Baalei Batim to come into the Zal and discuss Chassidus with the Bochurim in the setting of the Zal. Testers include Rabbi Reuven Livingstone, chaplain in the British Royal Army and former Rabbi of well known Norrice Lea Synagogue in Hampstead Garden Suburb.

For the past few weeks, a sense of preparing for Yud Shevat and strengthening Hishkashus has prevailed. In addition to the Bochurim shocking the testers by getting tested on over 1,000 oisios by heart in just one testing session, every single Bochur has shown himself to be truly motivated to work hard in learning as well as adding in Chassidishkeit in every aspect. In this way, each Bochur hopes to come to Yud Shevat with a true sense of hiskashrus, and will able to gain from Yud Shevat in the fullest manner. Rabbi Y.M. Hertz, the Rosh Yeshiva, has been so inspired with the heartfelt hachonos that he decided to raffle off another ticket for those who exert themselves in the study of Gmara l’iyun, in addition to a number of tickets being raffled off by the Shluchim. So far, the combined total is holding over 3,100 oisios, with the Bochurim poised to add many more in the coming week G-d willing.
