Rabbi Kotlarsky Decks Out in Bucharian Garb
Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, participated last week in a Hachnosas Sefer Torah for a Buchari Congregation in Queens, NY, which is supporded by the philathropist Levi Levaiev.
Rabbi Kotlarsky, who was present with his son Mendy, was honored to be cloaked in the traditional Bucharian robe, which is sewn with threads of gold.
The Shluchim in the area, Rabbi Zalman Zalmanov and Rabbi Yitzchok Volovik arraged the event.
During the event, Rabbi Kotlarsky spoke about the greatness of the Buchari community, which saved many Jewish refugees during the second world war, including his own father-in-law. He also praised Levi Levaiev, “the man who changed the life of the Bucharian community,” opening a Jewish day school in queens and inspiring many in the community to serve Hashem.
