Chief Rabbis Pledge Support for Chabad

Chabad representatives met with the newly elected chief rabbis of Israel in their Jerusalem offices.

Rabbi Yaakov Gloiberman and Rabbi Levi Edri met with chief Ashkenazic rabbi Dovid Lau and chief Sephardic rabbi Yitzchak Yosef.

During the meeting, Rabbi Yosef reminisced of the Talmud Torah he attended as a child, “Yavneh,” where he was taught by Rabbi Gloiberman’s father.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chabad representatives gave the chief rabbis a set of ‘Shulchan Menachem,’ a work on Halacha and Jewish customs based on the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, OBM.

The Chief Rabbis thanked Rabbis Gloiberman and Edri for their support during the campaign for chief rabbinate, and promised to be of much support to the Chabad movement in Israel and all over the world.

Why the need to write “OBM” after the Rebbe’s name? (anyway, OB”M is not usually written after a tzadik’s name)

How come Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef is not wearing the get up his father & other previous Sephardic Chief Rabbis always wore?
Is he breaking with tradition or what?

His father only wore the “get up” when he officiated at public events. He was also photographed dressed in regular clothes when in his office. It wasn’t only his father who wore the traditional garb. All of the Sefardi chief rabbis did.

The “get up” is Ottoman court dress; during Ottoman days the Rishon Letzion was a member of the royal court so he had to wear the uniform.
