Celebrating 100 Years of Shlichus!
Last Wednesday the Talmidim Hashluchim to Toras Emes departed to their post in Jerusalem. This year marks a centennial of Shlichus to the Yeshivah, with the first group being sent by the Rebbe Rashab who founded the Yeshiva in 5672 – 1912.
In accordance with the Rebbe’s instructions to shluchim to Fabreng before their departure, Tuesday night a Fabrengen was held upstairs in 770. Mashpiim of Oholei Torah, R’ Nachmon Shapiro and R’ Sholom Charitonow, joined by the Shluchim of previous years, fabrenged with the new Shluchim. Specially emphasized was the recently released Ksav Yad – Manuscript – of the Rebbe to Rabbi J.J. Hecht (see below) on his mission to Israel in 5727 – 1927.
Wednesday morning the Shluchim were escorted from 770 to the Ohel and then JFK. Upon arrival in Israel they were greeted by Rabbi Mendel Wilhelm – Shliach to Eged and bochurim from the Yeshiva, who broke out in spontaneous dancing.
Thursday night a grand Kabolas Ponim was held in Yeshiva to welcome the Shluchim. Friday afternoon they went to the Kosel with the Hanhala, and put a note in the Wall, inscribing their names and the names of the previous Shluchim, per the Rebbe’s request in a Yechidus to Shluchim in the 70’s.
