Russian President Extends High Holiday Greetings
Continuing a tradition going back several years, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev dispatched an official letter to the office of Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar to wish his country’s Jewish community blessings on occasion of Rosh Hashanah.
“The roots of this holiday stem deep from the olden days, but its spiritual foundation has not lost its importance in our times,” Medvedev wrote to Lazar, a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary, one day before the beginning of the High Holidays. “Rosh Hashanah is a time for good beginnings, a time for spiritual rehabilitation and a time to help the needy.
“The Jewish community in Russia is developing dynamically,” continued the president, pointing to its new synagogues, and educational and cultural institutions. “I wish you all a happy holiday, a year of happiness, good health and all beneficial things.”

BH.Who would have believed it, the change that has evolved, from the kind of treatment that the Jewish populace in Russia received in those days, and now, just look how the Rabbi and the President look so friendly, lehavdil. Where do you see the “lehavdil”? if you look closely at the photo, you will see, that, they are both clasping their hands together, and looking so friendly, yet the right hand, (which signifies chesed – kindness) of the Rabbi, is clasped ABOVE the left hand, which signifies “severity”, for this is The Torah way, which is called – Toras Chesed, that kindness to each other, has to be the uppermost hand, whereas, the left hand, (which represents “severity, and force”) of the president, is the uppermost, it shows a warning, not to get too friendly with non Jews, for they don’t know “kindness”, it is only by The Jewish nation keeping Torah and mitzvos, that the Jewish nation will get peace, and not by the handshake of a goy.

BH. They look so friendly, lehavdil. They both have their hands clasped, but, yedayim ydei Eisav, the HANDS show who is Eisav. if you look at the hands Rabbi Lazar, you will notice, that the RIGHT hand,(which denotes chessed – kindness) is uppermost, this is the Torah way, – Tora’s Chessed. By the Goy lehavdil, you see the hands of Eisav, the left hand, (that represents the aspect of force)is uppermost. Gmar chasima toivo.
