Guard at Melbourne Yeshiva Charged with Child Abuse

A Balaclava man has appeared in court charged with molesting children at a Melbourne Jewish school.

Locksmith and security guard David Cyprys, 43, was arrested this morning.

The alleged offences involved students of Yeshivah College, an orthodox Jewish boys’ school in East St Kilda, during the 1980s and early 1990s.

The court heard there were five alleged victims in Victoria, five in NSW and two in the US.

The alleged victims, who were all associated with Yeshivah college, were aged between seven and 17 at the time.

Cyprys has been charged with 16 counts of indecent assault and 13 counts of gross indecency.

Cyprys, who also taught karate, recently stood down from the board of management of an Elwood synagogue while police investigated the claims made against him by former students of the school.

He had been employed as a security guard by the Yeshivah Centre, which is part of the school.

Cyprys did not enter a plea and was granted bail on conditions including that he surrender his passport, does not go within 100 metres of a school and is not in contact with any child under 16 unless supervised by child protection authorities.

This includes his own children and step-children.

The case was adjourned to December 2.

    Senior members of a Melbourne Jewish community have been accused of protecting an alleged child sex offender who worked at one of the order’s schools.

    Cyprys, a father-of-two who also runs a locksmith business, could try to flee to Israel with the help of high-ranking individuals within the Yeshivah community, Detective Senior Constable Lisa Metcher told the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

    She accused Cyprys’s supporters of covering up the alleged offending, which is said to have occurred between 1984 and 1991.

    “The support that they have provided to him is by not saying anything about these matters when they have been canvassed,” Det Sen Const Metcher said during Cyprys’s bail application.

    “They have failed in any way to protect the children and the matter has been swept under the carpet, basically.”

    Ms Metcher said the supporters were “high standing members of the Jewish community”.

    I think its time for parents or victims to start suing the moisdos and then maybe they might take this situation more seriously once it cost them MONEY

    its not the people in yeshiva college school itself – why would they allow this? also, the girls school wasnt a lubavitch girls school…..it was a chaseedish (adas) one and the lady was the principal – totally not connected!

    Wait is this the yeshivah gedola (oldler bachurim) where Rabbi Binyamin Cohen is R”Y or the misvta. Being they call YG yeshivah college is this the same yeshivah or is this the younger bachurim & still call it yeshiva college. So Im not sure Which 1 is called Yeshivah College. Bec if it is YG Bachurim over 17 wont fall 4 that.

    Nothing was said about YG here, Its a picture of yeshiva college witch is not necessarily Mesivta either. So to answer your question, its YC-YESHIVA COLLEGE. Not YG-YESHIVA GEDOLAH. YG dosent have a security guard :P
