What Goes into Preparing for Shabbos? Headstart Students Find Out
In honor of Parash Yisro, the Parasha in which the Jews received the ten commandments from G-d, the young girls in Beis Rivkah’s head start got a hands-on learning experience about Shabbos, and what goes into preparing for it.
The lesson began with the girls dressing up in tichels and wigs, then heading out to ‘shop’ for Shabbos! Taking a ride in the school bus they went to the Marketplace and shopped for items that they would need to make a Shabbos meal, including table cloths, cups, candles, food and dessert.
After returning to school all the student ‘mommy’s’ used the items they purchased and prepared a ‘Shabbos meal’ in their classroom.
The hands on learning experience was the idea of the teachers who wanted to give their young students a more tangible learning experience by bringing it alive and being a physical part of it.
A special nod goes to the dedicated teachers, Morah Chani Jacobson, Morah Fraidy Teichtel and Morah Devorah Leah Phillips, as well as a special thank you to the Marketplace.

Great idea!! So happy see this. But I do have to wonder why they went on a bus? Beis RIvkah is right around the corner from The Marketplace! It would be good for the kids to get a little more outdoor time.
