Australian Court’s Decision Sends Ripples Through Jewish Community

Chabad Lubavitch Retreat Center in North Shore, Sydney

An Australian environmental justice’s decision to invalidate some rezoning plans in New South Wales has downgraded Jewish institution’s property values, in some cases by millions of dollars.

According to a report in The Australian Jewish News, Judge Malcom Craig’s decision has potentially undercut Masada College’s plans to sell its current property and consolidate its classes on one campus. The decision, however, would likely not affect the recent $6 million purchase of a vacant Sydney banking facility and plans to turn it into the Chabad-Lubavitch run North Shore Jewish Community Centre.

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies president Yair Miller told the paper that Craig’s decision stunned the community.

“We hope that the state government and Ku-ring-gai Council will act expeditiously to ensure that an appropriate solution is found,” said Miller.

That’s what happens when you have such stupid things as “environmental justices”.

Your article mentions that chabad has plans to turn it into a community center…As a matter of fact the center has been up and running for the past year and a half!!!

I personally had the opportunity to see the center, let me put it this way, it’s an absolute gem!!!
