Rabbinical Students to Bike Coast-to-Coast for Friendship Circle
Three rabbinical students will bike coast-to-coast this summer to benefit Friendship Circle International.
The cyclists will push off on the 4,000 mile distance on July 6 from Central Park in NYC, accompanied by their support vehicle. Along the way they will visit 20 Friendship Circle chapters where they will raise awareness and funds for Friendship Circle.
“We’ll be doing an average of 110 miles a day over seven weeks, and at that rate, you need about 9,000 calories per day instead of the usual 2,400,” explains twenty one year-old Zalmi Perlman, an avid runner who plans on running a marathon next year. “So I’ve been doing a lot of studying, and I’m working on specific diet so we’ll have enough energy.”
The Bike 4 Friendship team will travel along the east coast toward Texas, and then make their way toward California, where they will visit with the Friendship Circle of Los Angeles. Supporters may sponsor a mile, a day or a state at Bike4Friendship.com or by clicking here.
Pedaling across the country can be daunting for even a fit person. Shmuel Rothstein, 22, admits that he’s not sure “how my body will handle the stress.”
“But we’re very excited about the ride, and we’re working together to make sure we’ll all be in good shape.”

As an avid cyclist myself, I’m quite excited for you… I live in Israel and cycle a lot, but your cross country trip sounds exciting.

To #2 what does that have to do with anything?
To #4 so what, aren’t people allowed to have fun without your comments/criticism?
goodbiker
to #11 sure they are, i do to, but there is no need to claim that is under chabad, and make publicity for themselves, are be called “chevremans” or heros. like who cares if they take a road trip,
best camper of gan

miami beach bum
how do you travel along the east coast towards texas?
A bocher that appreciates these three.
useful outcome? chevreman? seriously??? I personally know these guys and they have been training for months and months to be able to accomplish this. It’s no easy task even for an avid biker.
These are chassidishe bochurim looking for nothing but to help a great mosed.
For those of you that have been living under a rock, the way these things work is that people like me and you give a little bit to sponsor a “mile” or a “day”. THATS where the money comes from – me and you.
What’s the useful outcome? guess there isn’t a friendship circle chapter under that rock, so you wouldn’t know. The rest of us know that it’s simply one of the greatest programs chabad has ever run.
p.s. while i wouldn’t usually talk about somebody’s chitas/rambam habits publicly, now that it’s out there these are the kind of guys that do and WILL learn every day. do you?
team alef - ch riders
how do we get in touch with them?
quizzeled
to 15 you seem to know these bochurim very well so maybe you can enlighten us how are these chassidisher bochurim going to go to mikva every day
Reality check.
To Number 12. I think reasonable people can differ as to the reasonableness/correctness of their “publicity”. However, I’m pretty certain that there is a consensus that there is no need to “bash” and “put them down” on a public forum. Besides being rude and insensitive, do you really think anybody cares that you don’t care about their trip?
If you have nothing nice to say, THEN DON’T SAY IT. It really is that simple. Have a good Shabbos.

#17 – what about merkos shlichus bochurim do they mikva every day in yehupetzville
besides for the fact that that is for their mashpia to decide not you!
these boshurim are doing an amazing job getting huge publicity for the Rebbes mosod Friednship circle and lets look at what happens: The Lubavetchers who should be supportive of bochurim making a kiddush shem lubavitch are bashing them … major shame
john
by the way i think this is a wonderfull idea
they should have some sort of competition between the bikers themselves
goodbiker
to #15,
1.i am a rabbi, who does chitas and rambam every day, and i am a biker, i have been biking since age 18. so do not judge! thanks you
2. you cannot compare merkaz shlichus to biking cross-country, meila in a tank, its one thing, but to be “bikers” (such a goishe name) i dont think it has the same outcome as going by tank.
think about it, makes sense,
have a good shabbos
a good friend
for all the chitas and mikvah complainers i highly doubt you learn or go every day yourself.
as for the bike ride being their friend and knowing what they are actually doing, all i can say is they will be doing more merkos shluchis then anyone else. besides for the teffilin in their backpack and meeting people on the way i know they plan on visiting people the 2nd half of the day.
so why bikes? since they are visiting people that are not religious yet they will be interested in meeting the “biking rabbis” and could have a much bigger influence.
as for asking mashpiam you can bet they did and they wrote into the Rebbe.
i would like to wish them much success in reaching hundreds of people and helping shluchim like never before
former lonsey bachur
very very nice shlmuel
`mmmmmm
whoever has a negative comment or even thought should really work on their outlook. seriously
To our good friend mr goodbiker...
Thank you for your care and concern for these three amazing bochrim bikers. When they are riding in intense heat and humidity in texas they will love to know that they are only doing it for themselves… When biking a hundred mile a day in these conditions actually becomes a recreational sport for regular post smicha bochrim because it is so much better than making a couple grand being head counselors some where, I how your concerns will be put to rest. May your concern be a lesson to all bochrim who, like these bochrim, actually say gimmel perakim rambam, chitas, go to mikva daily, listen to sicha while biking, and actual put themselves in danger (at least according to their scared mothers, who are petrified at them biking alongside cars going sixty miles an hour) then no will want to so good any more.
Ps I know these guys they are actually gonna be hurt by your comments, so do us s favor and respecivally shut up
awed
wow zalmi hasnt owned a bike sinsce he was 6 he must be really awesome
Sister of one of the boys.
To all the insecure negative commenters:
These boys are the real deal. They are honest, frum, caring, accomplished, good people. You are just too insecure with yourself to appreciate the amazing things they are doing.
There are some guys that are so motivated and dedicated, they have so much going for them; and those are the guys who are always a threat to people like you who have nothing to write home about about. So until you have goals and aspirations (and a brain), keep your comments to yourself.
mother of a bochur
to No. 21 … just so you know a mitzva tank (a real one not just a stam rv) happens to be going with them the whole time, because the bochurim will be actually doing Mivtzoim as well.
Mr. Cheese
On the website they had 4 bikers what happened to the 4th … was there some sort of politics … or did he find something else. He seemed like a very nice guy.
shprintza genendel
to number 29:don’t worry, no politics, he’s the driver….
