HAMC Students Have Inspiring Shabbaton in Monsey

This last Shabbos the fourth grade boys class of Hebrew Academy of Morris County had their first full Shabbos experience with the Monsey Chabad community. The children were excitedly looking forward to the Shabbaton after hearing stories from older grades Monsey Shabbaton experiences when they came to Monsey with Rabbi Gil Hami and were not disappointed.

Those things that we sometimes may take for granted were all new and inspiring to the boys. The Davening in a Chassidic shul, the elaborate Shabbos meals with stories and niggunim and the simcha and friendliness expressed by Anash all helped to make this a truly memorable weekend for them.

Some of the highlights for them were the extra lively dancing and singing after Lecha Dodi in K’hal Tzemach Tzedek for Chodesh Adar, a tour of a Mikvah, Shabbos Mevorchim Tehillim with Monsey Youth led by Rabbi Goldberg, “walking in the middle of empty streets in the middle of the day!, and cholent, of course.

They also were impressed and excited about the well known stories that Captain Tzvi Webb shared with them from his experiences of Shabbos in Vietnam at the Shalosh Seudos farbrengen. And, of course, the conclusion of Shabbos with images of the Rebbe from the Living Torah video Motzai Shabbos will remain them with them for a long time.

Once again, Yashar Koach to the Monsey Chabad community for making this a warm place conducive to outreach and drawing in Yidden to experience authentic Yidishkeit.

A special thank you to Sharon and Michal Weiss of Morristown, NJ for their involvement and help.
